Village of Pittsford approves moratorium on new construction

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - The Village of Pittsford is shutting the door on a proposed plan to build a hotel and spa along the Erie Canal.

Mall magnate Wilmorite wants to purchase property on Schoen Place and build an 80 room hotel and spa.

On Tuesday night, the Village Board of Trustees approved a year-long ban on new construction.

Wilmorite says they've done everything the village required of them and they're troubled by the decision.

"We don't know what they even are looking for," said Dennis Wilmot. "We're operating in a vacuum. Now the door's been slammed in our face."

Village trustees say the moratorium will allow them to update building codes.

Wilmorite says they are not ruling out legal action in response to the moratorium.
