ROCHESTER, NY (WROC-TV) - TYKEs Theatre will present the children's classic "Goodnight Moon" April 1-9 at the JCC Hart Theatre in Brighton.
TYKEs founder Freyda Schneider discussed the excitement around the upcoming show Tuesday on News 8 at Noon.
"I am so proud to say that our Great Green Room will take kids exactly into the book they have come to know and love every night before bed," said Schneider. "We made the spitting image of the book, complete with a red balloon."
The iconic story by Margaret Wise Brown will come to life on stage. "We really, really do bring this story to life!" Schneider said. "Not only because we use live actors and dancing, but the scenic elements come actually alive on stage. For example, if you've ever read the book a thousand times, you'll notice there's a picture of three bears sitting in chairs. We'll those bears don't just stay sitting the chairs. Those bears come out on stage accompanied by their chairs and do an entire song and dance number."
And then there is the cow jumping over the moon. "I'll give you spoiler alert," Schneider said. "The cow jumps over the moon, but it requires a couple of practice rounds before achieving success."
Bunny and Mouse guide audiences through the stage story. "Bunny and Mouse, of course, are prominent features in this famous story, but there are other very prominent characters as well such as The Old Lady, who by the way, whispers 'Hush!' and a host of additional characters you may not expect, including Mister Nobody, The Tooth Fairy, some cats -- who, as you may recall from the drawings, play with yarn -- and a bunch of other characters that you will be impressed to meet," said Schneider.
The performance schedule is as follows:
Saturday, April 1 and 8 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Sunday April 2 at 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (* ASL-interpreted)
