Students and officers come together at "Brockport's Night Out"

The event is modeled after the "National Night Out"

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - The Men of Color student group at the College of Brockport, co-hosted Wednesday's "Brockport Night Out" event, along with the University Police.

The event is modeled after the "National Night Out," and is Brockport's version of a community-police awareness event. The event is intended to provide an opportunity for students, police, and community members to come together to learn about anti-crime efforts.

"We just want to make sure that their comfortable with us and that we're approachable," says University Police Chief Dan Vasile. "There's a lot going on outside right now around the nation and the relationships with police and citizens today isn't what it was years ago. We want to get it back to where it's very positive."

The event is supported by the college's Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
