Slaughter pushes back against GOP tax bill

WASHINGTON, DC (WROC-TV) - Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is one of the latest representatives to stress her opposition to the GOP tax bill.

Republicans are racing to pass a tax overhaul before the end of the year. Slaughter says it will cause some serious damage to New Yorkers including many college students.

"It's not good for local schools," said Slaughter. "College students won't be able any longer to deduct their college loans and since the interest loan is already at nine percent, I consider that usury. And to not be able to deduct it is just double usury."

This bill will be before the House Committee on Rules on Wednesday and could be on the House Floor as early as Thursday of this week.
