Sheriff: Threat that prompted Cato-Meridian lockdown was accidental

CATO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - UPDATE: Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould says a reported threat that prompted a lockdown at Cato-Meridian High School was non-malicious and accidental. Gould says were no threats to safety and no violations of criminal law.

The schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after various shells and rounds were located on school property.

An initial statement from the district indicated that ammunition had been found in a backpack in a student's locker.

The Sheriff’s Office says the discovery of the shells was not connected with a threat leveled at the district earlier in the week.

A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with that threat.
