Livingston County woman located after she went missing Monday

LEICESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - UPDATE:

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Doughtery says the call that Starrlita Smith was safe came in around 7 p.m. Thursday. He says there are still plenty of questions that they don't have answers to, but he was able to shed some light on the case Thursday night.

Sheriff Doughtery says they didn't have any solid leads in the case, up until the moment 21-year-old Starrlita Smith was found.

She had been missing since Monday, after leaving the home she lives in with her parents.

"They said she appeared from the garage and said she had been sleeping for three days," said Dougherty.

Sheriff Dougherty says Smith is at the hospital with her family, and appears to be okay, other than being slightly dehydrated.

As for the investigation, and whether Smith was in the garage the entire time throughout the search, Dougherty says that the case isn't closed yet.

"We had searched that house high and low; the garage high and low; our K9's high and low," said Dougherty. "We're not ruling out that she wasn't in the garage, but we're also not ruling out that she wasn't in that garage."

Sheriff Dougherty says she appeared to be in the same clothes she left in Monday.

An intense search continues for a young woman who went missing from Livingston County

Deputies say 21-year-old Starrlita Smith walked away from her home Monday night.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty said the search is currently focused near Jonesbridge Road and Perry Road in Leicester, nearby the home Smith lives in with her parents.

Sheriff Dougherty said Smith left her home when her parents were having a discussion. He also said that she is 21, but they're treating this like a child is missing because Smith has special needs.

"This has been a big push and some of you may wonder why at times she can function as low as a 6-year-old, other times a 12-year-old," said Sheriff Dougherty.

Sheriff Dougherty said the search will continue until dark and then they'll be back Thursday.

Anyone around the area with surveillance cameras is asked to review the footage or give it to authorities, so they can see if Smith is on it.
