Reid Robbins receives Golden Apple Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - A math reacher at Rochester Academy Charter School seems to have solved a perennial problem.

He knows how to help students love learning.

For that, he's receiving this week's Golden Apple Award.

Reid Robbins says he views his students like family, and apparently the feeling goes the other way too.

"His classroom is full every lunchtime," said Jennifer Doyle, Middle School Principal. "So he doesn't take that time for himself, he shares his time to teach students chess or help them with homework."

A lot of the time Robbins spends with his students is outside of work hours.

You can even add SAT review sessions and prep for math competitions to that list.

This commitment inspired Liryc Lewis to nominate Mr. Robbins for a Golden Apple Award.

"I think now especially in a time where we have a lot turbulence with our teachers, I think it's a really good idea to nominate and recognize the teachers that standout in the crowd," said Lewis.

At News 8, we do too.

"This is a tremendous honor," said Robbins. "I was not expecting this. My goal is to teach the kids and help them improve their lives and become productive members of society."

Thank you, Mr. Robbins, for being a most-deserving recipient of the Golden Apple Award.
