ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - New York State Senator Pam Helming (R-Canandaigua) has introduced a bill that would establish a $55 million Great Lakes Flood Recovery Grant Program.

The grants would be available to home and business owners whose properties have sustained direct, physical flood-related damage due to the high Lake Ontario water levels between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017.

The maximum award for approved applicants would vary based on the type of applicant. Homeowners could be awarded a grant up to $15,000, small businesses up to $50,000, and municipalities up to $1,000,000.

The application process would not begin until the bill is approved by both the Senate and Assembly.
