Arrest made in connection with Dewey Avenue and Ridgeway Avenue stabbing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - UPDATE 10/8:

The Rochester Police Department has reported the arrest of John Parnell Jr., 56, of Rochester in connection with the stabbing at the intersection of Dewey and Ridgeway.

Police say Parnell Jr. has been charged with Assault in the 1st.

According to officers, the victims medical status has been upgraded to stable.

Astacio's attorney, Gregory Paul Salmon, has released the following statement:

This office has been retained by Judge Leticia Astacio. Our understanding of the incident that took place late last night on October 7, 2017, is as follows:

Judge Astacio was walking into Radio Social, a bowling alley in Rochester, New York, with friends. An unidentified female, unknown to Judge Astacio, who is described as a middle-aged white woman, approached and accosted the Judge. During the attack, she asked the Judge if she was in fact, Judge Astacio. She then, grabbed Judge Astacio by the arm and insisted that Judge Astacio leave Radio Social to fight outside.

This was an unprovoked, bullying attack upon Judge Astacio. She shoved Judge Astacio and used
profanity towards her. Thankfully, Radio Social security was able to intervene; however, when the
woman refused to leave, the Rochester Police responded, taking the assailant into custody. Judge

Leticia Astacio contacted me immediately following the incident. She was not seriously injured or hurt in the incident. Judge Astacio is shaken from the incident and insists that these occurrences are becoming far too common and increasingly more dangerous.

Judge Astacio is a single mother, no longer feels safe in this community. To be clear, Judge Astacio was not in violation of her probation sentence by being present at Radio Social nor did she consume any alcoholic beverages.

UPDATE10/7:

Rochester police report the man is in critical, but stable condition.
