Photonics company to expand, add new jobs in Monroe Co.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - A photonics company that was considering moving out of New York State has changed its mind and will expand operations in Monroe County.

IDEX Health & Science, LLC will lease space in a newly constructed building in Henrietta. It will house the company's Optical Center of Excellence.

The company will create 34 new full-time jobs and retain 186 jobs in the move.

IDEX VP of Operations, Life Science Optics, Mike Ransford said, "the infrastructure of the community around the optics and photonics space has been great, so the local universities as far as workforce development/recruiting, it is just a fertile ground."

The expansion was made possible through a New York State investment in the "Finger Lakes Forward" initiative. Also, Empire State Development will provide up to $2.4 million in exchange for job creation commitments.

Ground breaking is expected to take place this fall.
