Mother of Sorrows Church holds pet blessings

GREECE, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Furry friends were at church on Saturday in Greece for the blessing of the pets event.

Mother of Sorrows Church in Greece welcomed all members of the family Saturday.

The tradition honors the Feast of Saint Francis, which is celebrated on October 4 to honor the life of the saint.

Pet blessings included dogs, cats, fish and even birds.

"It reminds us of how our catholic faith influences every aspect of our lives, even our appreciation for animals," said Father William Coffas.

Saint Francis is the patron saint of animals. The church has been doing pet blessings for three years.
