Monroe County Sheriff's Office acquires new gear, rifles, drones

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - The Monroe County Sheriff's deputies are now equipped with new state-of-the-art protective gear and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAS) program is now operational.

The office recently received a grant to purchase 30 rifles, 52 ballistic helmets, and 52 ballistic vests with protective front and back ceramic plates.

The goal is to equip deputies with protective equipment to provide the greatest level of protection and effectiveness when responding to active shooter incidents, terrorist attacks, and other criminal incidents.

The office also acquired three new drones, made possible from a donation from the Monroe County Sheriff's Foundation.
