Mascots compete in "Ugly Duckling" competition

Some of Rochester's feathered friends paid a visit to the Rochester City Ballet.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Some dancers from the Rochester City Ballet got a little help from Rochester's feathered mascots.

Spikes and Thunder, the Red Wings and Knighthawks mascots, can't dance in “The Ugly Duckling," which the ballet company is performing this weekend. So the ballet company decided to invite them to the studio and show off their moves on Wednesday.

Shannon Rodriquez, a dancer with the Rochester City Ballet, says “We just thought we would have a little friendly competition today, show off our bird skills. So we did some competing: a jump contest, a stretch contest. Unfortunately we didn't win over here, but they did a pretty good job, so they can take home the win."

Shows are at 2 p.m. both Saturday February 6 and Sunday February 7 at the Nazareth College Arts Center. There will be a special sensory-friendly show on Saturday at 11 a.m. There will be activities before the show for kids, and they get to meet the dancers after the show.
