Local stores gearing up to hire for the holidays

Experts are weighing in on why we may be seeing more positions open

Rochester, N.Y (WROC_TV) - Kim Schultz is a team leader at Target in Henrietta, getting ready to hire for the holiday rush.

“Specifically for our Henrietta location for seasonal, what we have estimated now is 72 additional cashier stock, team members, etc,” Schultz said.

Schultz says that's 30% more than what they hired last year in the store.

"We'll be hiring sales floor team members to help our guests find the items they're looking for. We're [also] hiring additional stockers who would come in in the morning to unload our freight trucks,” she said.

Experts say it's not a surprise. New York State’s economy has added more than one million private sector jobs and experienced employment growth in the past six years.

Jan Pisanczyn, the regional director for the Small Business Development Center with the College of Brockport explained.

"People are starting to recognize the fact that they want to go, touch, see, feel smell the stuff they're buying in a store. Retailers are beginning to recognize this,” Pisanczyn said.

Meanwhile Schultz said this is what you can expect, if you're applying for one of those seasonal positions.

"When we offer them the job, they'll be interviewing and applying for several different positions. We will start interviewing for stockers within the next two to three weeks.”
