ROCHESTER, NY (WROC-TV) - Foodlink's Forks & Skis fundraiser is set for Friday, March 3 at Bristol Mountain from Noon to 5:00 p.m.
Mark Dwyer, the Communications Manager at Foodlink, and Katrina Hurzy, Senior Vice President at Key Bank, discussed the annual event Friday on News 8 at Noon.
"We'll have open ski, we'll have a race for dash for cash, and we'll have relaxation and music and hors d'oeuvres later on in the evening with the Willbillys," said Hurzy. "We've got a great opportunity for raffle and auction items, including a trip to Panama." Other auction items include a ski trip to a resort in the Adirondacks and a stay at Bristol Mountain. Cornell's Jewelers and Park Ave. Bike have also donated items.
In the five years of Forks and Skis over $100,000 has been raised to support Foodlink, the region's food bank. "Events like this are great because we get the community involved," said Dwyer. "Not only are we raising a whole chunk of money going out to feed people in need, but we're just raising awareness. We're getting the skiers out on the mountain, getting them involved, and it's great to have Harris Beach and Key Bank as sponsors for this year's event."
Foodlink provides nutritious meals for people in need year round. "We know that one in eight people in our 10 county service area are considered food insecure," Dwyer said. "They don't have access to enough healthy food for their household, and so that equates to about 160,000 people in the 10 counties that we serve."
