Father of 2-year-old boy shot on Walnut Street pleads not guilty

Zayden Phillips remains in guarded condition

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Charles Phillips, the man charged with shooting his 2-year-old son, was arraigned in Rochester City Court Saturday morning and pled not guilty all charges. He will be held without bail due to two previous felony convictions. 

Phillips, 36, was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

Two-year-old Zayden Phillips is currently listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Rochester Police Chief Ciminelli says after a search warrant was executed at the home on Walnut Street Friday, police arrested the father of the two-year-old who was shot inside the home. 

Police say Phillips was arrested after police located a handgun inside the home on Walnut Street. 

Chief Ciminelli says police do not believe there is a second suspect.

Phillips will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on October 26.
