Doggie casting call

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC-TV) - The Center for Youth and Fashion Week of Rochester is holding a casting call for dogs this Saturday, May 20 from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Culver Road Armory in Rochester.

The October, when Fashion Week returns to the runway to benefit the Center for Youth, there will be a Canine Chic show for dogs.

The Center for Youth Executive Director Elaine Spaull, accompanied by Sophie the dog, discussed the casting call, Fashion Week's popularity, and its impact on The Center for Youth Friday on News 8 at Noon.

"We are, on October 11, going to have a runway show as a part of Fashion Week called Canine Chic," said Spaull. "Seventy-five dogs on the runway, so we need to find them! We need you to bring your dogs, we need to know who you are! All shapes and sizes. Little bitty ones in purses and pockets. Big, big ones on the runway, and of course our diva Sophie."

Canine Chic will put the spotlight on dogs, but also children in need. " You know that Fashion Week of Rochester is saving children in our crisis nursery, and in our shelters," Spaull said. "So, while we love our dogs, and while we're celebrating them on Wednesday, October 11, we are also celebrating our children.

Fashion Week of Rochester has become a major fundraiser for The Center for Youth. "It's not an exaggeration to say we actually have kept shelters open, and opened new shelters," noted Spaull. "We have in our sights another crisis nursery on the east side of town. That needs about $150,000 in operating, and we have no state, federal, or even local dollars. It's all private funding. Sophie's going to help us raise another half million this year."
