Deputies: Robbery suspect impersonated officer to force his way into hotel room

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - A Rochester man is facing multiple charges including robbery and impersonating a police officer.

On Monday at around 5 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Days Inn on West Henrietta Road for a call for a family problem. Deputies arrived on scene and knocked on a door to one of the hotel rooms. At that time, deputies say 23-year-old Daniel Nwosu smashed out a window and fled the room armed with a long gun.

As a deputy chased Nwosu, he pointed a gun at the deputy and then dropped it.

Nwosu continued running into a wooded area until he was apprehended by the deputy and taken into custody.

Investigators say Nwosu forced his way into a woman's hotel room, armed with a long gun, and identified himself as a police officer. Deputies say a long gun was recovered and found to be a BB gun.

Nwosu stole a sum of cash from the victim.

Deputies say Nwosu admitted to his actions when he was interviewed by investigators.

He is charged with robbery in the second degree, burglary in the second degree, criminal impersonation of a police officer, menacing in the second degree, and resisting arrest.

Nwosu was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail or $70,000 bond.
