Construction underway for Special Touch Bakery's new location

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Construction is underway for the new Special Touch Bakery in Rochester.

A ceremonial "sledgehammer swinging" event took place Wednesday in the area where the new facility will be.

The new 20,000 sq. ft. bakery, located at 1999 Mt. Read Blvd., will be operated by Holy Childhood and will offer unique choices for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The project will create more than 25 jobs in 1 year and up to 40 by the 5th year of its operation.

"Everything that I've done in the past 30 years is now being expanded upon and the opportunities for the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to move forward in the community and to have meaningful work they can be proud of," said Shirley Lynch, the bakery's manager.

The investment in this project complements "Finger Lakes Forward," the region's successful economic blueprint aimed at growing the economy and creating new opportunities.
