Candidates for Monroe County Sheriff debate

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn, who is running for re-election this year, faced off against challenger Todd Baxter during a debate Tuesday at the Rochester Rotary.

The two discussed issues like diversity, police-community relations, and the opioid epidemic.

"I've been saying this through the whole campaign, even before the campaign, we've got to bring opioids to a whole new level," Baxter said. "We're dancing around the issue, I think. It's 196 people died last year, we've gotta take that on."

"The opioid epidemic is not a law enforcement issue alone, it's something that needs to be addressed on many fronts and we've been doing it for now over two years," O'Flynn said.

According to O'Flynn, a debate will take place later this month.
