Brook Stagles' grandfather speaks out on CPS changes

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Michael Stagles pled guilty on Friday to Criminally Negligent Homicide for the role he played in the death of his 3-year-old daughter, Brook Stagles.

One week ago, his girlfriend Erica Bell was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and Manslaughter in the First Degree for her role.

The case pushed Monroe County to announce changes to its Child Protective Services. In an announcement on Wednesday, the county announced an eight point plan. Points on that plan include hiring more case workers and increasing their salaries.

Brook's grandfather, John Geer has pushed for change since his granddaughter died. After Friday's hearing, he said the county's plan is a good start, but more needs to be done.

"The plan could have had Brook's name in there. Her tragic event put this into motion," said Geer. "I won't stop until her name is in a law."

The county also re-established its child abuse hotline. That hotline can be reached at 1-800-342-3720.
