Boaters asked to reduce speed on Canandaigua and Honeoye Lakes

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Law enforcement is urging boaters to reduce their speeds on Canandaigua Lake.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, is asking boaters to use caution due to floating debris while operating boats on Canandaigua Lake.

Boaters are asked to operate their vessels at no more than 5 miles per hour within 200 feet of shore on Canandaigua Lake.

Officers also encourage boaters to wear personal flotation devices at all times. Estimated water temperature of Canandaigua Lake is 37 degrees -- hypothermia may quickly occur.

Boaters are also asked to observe reduced speeds on Honeoye Lake as there may be floating debris below the surface.
