Baxter defeats O'Flynn in race for Monroe County Sheriff

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - After 16 years, the top cop in Monroe County will soon be out of a job.

Patrick O'Flynn was hoping to win a fifth term in office, but voters decided otherwise.

Democratic challenger Todd Baxter received 57 percent of the votes, taking the position from the Republican incumbent.

"The voters have spoken," O'Flynn said. "I respect the process. I have been in the process for 16 years and worked alongside the process as Sheriff Maloney's number two for 13 prior to that. I knew how the system worked. Obviously, I made a vow 16 years ago I would never go negative in a campaign. I would not get if the gutter with someone. I hold my head up high and leave proudly."
