16-year-old charged with DWI after crash in Phelps

PHELPS, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - The Ontario County Sheriff's Office has reported that a 16-year-old has been charged with DWI and driving while ability impaired by drugs after a car crash in the Town of Phelps.

According to deputies, Sarah Lahr, 16, of Geneva was involved in a one car crash on McIvor Road after drifting off the south side of the highway, striking a cement culvert head wall, and sideswiping a NYSEG utility pole. 

Deputies say the vehicle then burst into flames and that Lahr was able to get herself out and away from the vehicle. 

According to deputies, members of Oaks Corners Fire Department and Phelps Ambulance responded to the scene. Lahr was transported by Phelps Ambulance and then Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with leg and arm injuries. 

Deputies say Lahr was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs. 

According to deputies, the cause of the crash was that Lahr fell asleep, in addition to the drug and alcohol impairments. 

Deputies say Lahr will answer the charges at a later date in Phelps Town Court.
