10-year-old boy dies after being left alone in Churchville

The child was found unresponsive by his 6-year-old brother

CHURCHVILLE, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - A ten-year-old boy has died in Churchville after being left home alone, according to Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn. 

J'Vieon Grayson-Sutton was found unresponsive by his six-year-old brother, who went to his neighbor's on Fitch Street for help around 9:30 p.m. The neighbor called 911.

According to O'Flynn, no adults were home at the time. 

Grayson-Sutton was taken to the hospital, where he died Tuesday morning. The cause of death is not yet known. 

O'Flynn says a white powder was found inside the home, but that the field test did not test positive for any drugs.

O'Flynn the children's mother was at work and a boyfriend was watching the kids. The boyfriend left the house around 8:30 p.m. to run errands.

Investigators are working with CPS. Charges are pending.

The Churchville-Chili School District posted the following statement on its website:

The Churchville-Chili School District is mourning the loss of middle school student, J’Vieon Grayson-Sutton, who passed away earlier today, June 13. The district is not releasing any other information at this time out of respect for the family’s privacy.

Counselors and members of the district Trauma, Illness, and Grief team will be available in the Learning Center located in the middle school south building throughout the day tomorrow, June 14, for students and staff. Additional support will also be available at CES, where J'Vieon's younger brother is a student.
