Tennis legend Billie Jean King says it's simple for people age 65 and older to find out if they have diabetes. She's encouraging older adults to get a diabetes screening, which is free to Medicare recipients at risk for the disease.
King, who is now 66, says the condition runs in her family and she was diagnosed with Type Two diabetes three years ago. One of her top concerns is that an alarming 70% of older adults have either diabetes or pre-diabetes but don't know it.
King says eating a healthier diet and getting enough exercise are two big factors in her diabetes treatment. Left untreated, the disease can lead to complications like kidney failure, heart ailments, blindness and limb amputation.
