Rochester Animal Services Needs Your Help

Rochester Animal Services needs your help to win $100,000 to help take care of pets and get them ready for adoption.

Rochester Animal Services is just one of dozens of agencies across the country playing in the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' $100K Challenge.  From now (April 4) until April 15, you can log on to the ASPCA Challenge website and vote once a day to move Rochester Animal Services forward in the Challenge.  The 50 shelters with the most votes become the official contestants. Winners will receive grant money up to $100,000.

The goal of this competition is to get more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before.   Rochester Animal Services has big plans for the $100,000.  The agency plans to use it to expand its targeted spay/neuter program which gives discounted sterilization surgeries for pets of city residents who qualified.  RAS sterilized 581 cats and dogs through this program in 2010.  RAS also helps with animal placement.

If you head to the Public Market this Saturday (April 9), RAS will be there getting out the vote.
