The Ridge Road Fire District will receive $144,000 through a federal program spear-headed by New York Senator Charles Schumer.

The district is set to receive $144,000, which the district will use to replace one of its emergency vehicles. The district currently uses a 27-year-old Chevrolet van to store equipment and materials used by firefighters and other emergency staff. The money comes courtesy of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The program allocates funds for fire departments to make sure that they have all the necessary resources to protect the public and themselves. The grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Schumer says the money will allow fire departments and emergency responders to "improve their level of service to local residents."
