President Obama is pitching health care reform to senior citizens.
Visiting a senior center in Maryland, Mr. Obama said preventive health care screening is part of the sweeping health bill that he signed this year. He defended the controversial measure, which is his signature legislative accomplishment.
The President also warned seniors about con artists and said the government will aggressively pursue healthcare fraud.
Mr. Obama insisted that the elderly are not just entitled to Medicare coverage, they earned it.
As part of the healthcare reform bill, the government this week will start sending $250 rebate checks to seniors to compensate for a gap in Medicare drug coverage. he gap is commonly known as a "doughnut hole." He said the "doughnut hole" will eventually be closed.
