Independence Party Still Pushing Votes For Richards

- The Independence Party of Monroe County is still pushing for Mayor Tom Richards to win in November, despite his decision to end campaigning.

Richards decided to stop campaigning after the primary back in September where he lost to City Council President Lovely Warren. Richards said it was time to put his family first. In a statement, Independence Party chairman Stephen Corryn said he supports Richards' decision but "upon re-election, Mayor Richards will have the opportunity to continue to implement the strategies and policies that have been moving our city in a very positive direction."

In a statement Monday, Richards said in part, "on September 17th I announced that I was ending my campaign due to personal circumstances that demanded my attention. That continues to be true following the passing of my son Matthew. At the time of my announcement, I also stated that I was not going to entertain political speculation. That also continues to be true. Since that time, I have been concentrating my time on my family and on my job as Mayor. I have not had any conversations with any political party regarding the mayoral election."

When voters hit the polls in November, they can vote for Richards on the Independence Party line.
