Why ROC: Unither's expansion

- Kevin Haehl, Unither's General Manager for North America, discussed the company's manufacturing facility in Rochester and plans for expansion during our Why ROC interview Wednesday on News 8 at Sunrise.

Unither is a French-based pharmaceuticals company which has operated in Europe for over 20 years.  It is an industry leader in developing and manufacturing pre-measured single dose, ready-to-use medicines.  The company also contract manufactures for other pharmaceutical companies.  It was looking to create a base of operations in the U.S. and North America, the largest pharma market in the world, and selected Rochester.  The company began manufacturing products at its facility on Jefferson Road in Henrietta last fall.

Haehl said Rochester was selected by Unither because a large percentage of potential customers reside on the East Coast, so it provides access without the higher cost of bigger cities.  The Henrietta site had existing infrastructure that was compatable for Unither and a highly skilled workforce was in place to accelerate expansion plans.  The company intends to partner with the University of Rochester, RIT and St. John Fisher College.

Unither is investing $15.7 million to expand its operation in Rochester to bring its single unit dose manufacturing capabilities to the facility.  Haehl said 262 jobs will be retained and 22 new ones will be created over the next few years.  The company plans to recruit scientists, engineers, and operations staff.  People interested in these positions can email: employment@unither-pharma.com to learn more about open positions or submit a resume.
