Valentine, Sagan win Broadway League awards

- Teacher Holly Valentine and Bob Sagan of the Rochester Broadway Theatre League each received awards from the Broadway League this spring.

Valentine, who teachers at Rochester's Walt Disney Elementary School, and Sagan, the RBTL's Director of Education and Community Engagement, discussed the awards Wednesday on News 8 at Noon.

Valentine was chosen as the local winner of the New York City based Broadway League's annual League Educator Apple Award.  The award recognizes the efforts of local educators who support League member education programs relating to touring Broadway shows, promoting further development of theatre education.  Valentine was nominated for her role in partnering with the RBTL for this year's Phantom "Beyond the Mask" program.

Sagan was the first-ever recipient of the Broadway League's Outstanding Achievement in Education and Community Engagement Award.  He was presented with the award at New York City's Studio 54 in May, before a room of industry giants.  The award recognizes Sagan's efforts to promote theatre education in the Rochester community through programs like "Beyond the Mask."  For Sagan, 2014 marks his 50th year as an educator.  Through his efforts over the last 17 years, RBTL has developed 11 nationally recognized, award-winning education programs.
