The Rochester Broadway Theatre League Stars of Tomorrow winners will depart for the national competition in New York City on Wednesday, June 25.

Maureen Edwards of Notre Dame of Batavia and Alvis Green of the School of the Arts discussed the opportunity Tuesday on News 8 at Noon.

Edwards and Green captured the Stars of Tomorrow top honors in May, during a competition featuring 24 Rochester area theatrical students.  Each student prepared three vocal selections to perform during three rounds of competition.

The National High School Music Theatre Awards will encompass five days of musical theatre rehearsals, master classes, private coaching and interview with theatre professionals.  Based upon their skill level and professional goals, students are eligible for college scholarships, professional internships, career coaching and opportunities for auditions.

In 2011, Wayne Central's Shauni Ruetz made Rochester proud, winning the national "Jimmy Award" at the New York City competition.
