Ode to Joy at First Unitarian Church

- The Ode to Joy family fun event and ALS benefit will be held Saturday, June 21 at Rochester's First Unitarian Church from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Rev. Kareen Anderson, Senior Minister at the First Unitarian Church, and volunteer Kay Jacobstein discussed the event Friday on News 8 at Sunrise.

Ode to Joy will help raise money for Joy Parker, who was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease in April of 2010, and benefit the legacy fund for the First Unitarian Church.  Parker and her husband Mike have two children Kate and Nicole.  A photographer and artist for more than 30 years, Joy works as a web coordinator for WXXI Public Broadcasting.  In the face of her own diagnosis, she has selflessly helped raise thousands of dollars for the Greater Rochester Muscular Dystrophy Association and the ALS Association Upstate Chapter.

Saturday's event will be held at the First Unitarian Church, located at 220 Winton Road South.  Kids will have the opportunity to jump in bounce houses and meet their favorite WXXI characters.  Sticky Lips and Abbott's Custard will provide the food and dessert.  There will also be live music from The Jane Mutiny Band, as well as over 70 amazing silent auction items.

Tickets are still available: $15 adults, $5 kids (no more than $40 per family).  For more information, click here
