John Casey, 2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal
By News 8
John grew up in Hornell, New York as one of nine children. He served his country in the US Army, and later pursued a career at the Rochester Telephone Company. He and his wife Sandra raised eight children.
After John retired, he found his second calling working in the Churchville-Chili School District, where he was involved in all aspects of student life. He was always there offering a helping hand, or words of wisdom to help set a wandering youth straight upon the path of life. Called "Mr. Churchville" he is revered by thousands of students who have even set up a Facebook page for him, and where he currently has over 4000 fans! Mr. Casey and the Churchville Chili School District offer a yearly scholarship to students who have overcome obstacles in their lives.
John is a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, who has been recognized as Channel 13's Bright Spot, as well as being named the Town of Riga Citizen of the Year.
John's son Shawn said, "As a teacher and a friend, as a parent and a guide, he is an example of the unsung hero in every American community. He is a precious commodity that we should all emulate and cherish."
It is with great pleasure that we announce John P. Casey as the Honorary Marshal of the 2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade.
