Celiac Strong Camp

- For the second straight summer a camp will be held exclusively for children who suffer from Celiac Disease.

Camp founder Sabrina DeVos discussed the summer event Wednesday on News 8 at Sunrise.

DeVos has suffered from Celiac Disease for 11 years.  She explained that people who have Celiac Disease experience an intolerance to gluten, where villi in the intestines are unable break down nutrients in food.  It makes eating out at restaurants or even going to a friends house to eat very difficult.

DeVos held the camp last summer as part of an effort to achieve her Gold Award in Girl Scouts.  About 30 children between the ages of 8 at 15 attended the camp at Comstock in Ithaca.  This year she's hoping to double that number, expanding the offering to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 16.

The camp is being offered July 26-29.  For more information, visit the Celiac Strong Camp website, click here.
