Canandaigua Family Gives $3 Million Boost to Hospital Expansion

Despite a tough economic climate, an anonymous family has made a huge donation to a hospital in Canandaigua.

An area family is donating $3 million to Thompson Health to support an expansion and renovation of F.F. Thompson Hospital.

The donation more than doubles the current amount given by donors, which now stands at $5 million.  Thompson plans to raise between $15 and $17 million, with outside financing paying the rest of the $40 million bill.

All Thompson Health could say about the family of donors, who wish to remain anonymous, is that they're from Canandaigua.

The project is slated to include the hospital's surgical suites, the Ambulatory Procedures Unit, Nutritional Services, Rehabilitation Services and administrative space. The project is "Phase II" of expansions and renovations that were completed in 2004 and included a state-of-the-art emergency department that doubled in size and an all-digital diagnostic imaging department.

The expansion/renovation is currently under review by state and regional planning authorities.
