Hart's Local Grocers opens, bringing first grocery store in decades to downtown Rochester

- ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) -Hart's Local Grocers grand opening was Friday, bringing out hundreds of people from the community including Mayor Lovely Warren and Senator Ted O'Brien.

The grocery is the first in downtown Rochester in over two decades. It will provide residents with a full-scale supermarket including fresh and local produce, meats, cheeses, a bakery and even a mini-sandwich shop.
Glenn Kellogg, the President of Hart's Local Grocers said he is excited the grand opening is finally here.

"One of the things missing from downtown Rochester was a full service grocery store," Kellogg said. "We've got a full service grocery store here with produce, dairy products, meats, fish and a full butcher shop here."

Residents came from far and wide to be there for the 7 a.m. grand opening, including Alan Davidson. Davidson drove from Brighton with the hopes that he'd be the first to step foot in the grocery store, and that's just what he did.

"My very first job 63 years ago was a bag boy at the Star Supermarket," Davidson said. "We all know Hart's left and Star took over so it's bringing back a lot of memories to me."

People not only enjoyed their first shopping experience at the supermarket, but they were greeted by a photography session and the chance to take a free red rose.

Mayor Lovely Warren said this supermarket is important for this community.

"I am excited about this, it has been over two decades that we have not had a grocery store in Downtown Rochester," Warren said. "Like I said earlier, this is about renewing, rebuilding and revitalizing our city."

Hart's Local Grocers is open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
