Commercial street is typically pretty quiet, but this weekend its going to b transformed by fake buildings, crushed cars, a runway for models, and a skateboarder!
Now in it's 3rd year, the nearly week-long green-themed event got underway earlier this week.
"Greentopia is a celebration about sustainability," explains fashion show director, Shawn Dunwoody. "Its festivals, within festivals, within festivals which are actually tackling ideas of sustainability."
Everything from speakers and green vendors to a farmers market and eco-friendly vehicles.
And the From The Ground' fashion show, happening on Saturday, isn't your typical fashion show.
"We're gonna transform Commercial Street into this sort of ally way where we all get to have a good party time," says Dunwoody. "So we're bringing in a fake building that has been graffitied all over, our models walk out of this abandoned building on top of crushed cars."
Models will be showing off everything from paper dresses to up-cycled garments.
And they're bringing in a professional skateboarder to kick things up a notch!
"Yeah we'll probably be doing some sort of jumps on ramps, they'll have some railings and urban looking features they're setting up for us," says Kanten Russell, professional skateboarder who flew in just for the event. "If we can incorporate it into the crushed cars runway, you may see us jump on or off or something crazy."
Russell is also the lead designer for the new skate park planned for the city of rochester.
