Got a Newborn? Reach for Your Cell Phone for Advice

Text4Baby provides new parents with important information and advice right on their cell phone.

Moms sign up for the free service when they're pregnant either right on their cell phones or on the Text4Baby website .

Three texts come every week and are set to go along with where the women are in their pregnancy and follow through to the child's first birthday.  The texts cover a lot from preventing birth defects to dealing with stress when the baby comes.  The texts can also connect moms to public clinics for prenatal and infant care.

The campaign is meant to address the high rate of preemie births and infant deaths in the U.S.  According to the federal government, more than 500,000 babies are born premature each year.  Aboug 28,000 die before their first birthday.  The texting campaign hopes to target the younger generation of moms.

As long as you have a cell phone, you can sign up for Text4Baby.  Most major cell phone providers are signed on including Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.
