Kerry McPartland receives Golden Apple Award

VICTOR, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - As word spread that a News 8 crew was marching to Kerry McPartland's Spanish class at Victor Junior High School, students piled out of their rooms.

They know what Ryan Pero knows: Ms. McPartland is something special.

"She provides students with a really safe and comfortable learning environment which is really key to their success in learning,” said Pero, who was in McPartland’s class last year.

Laughter is one of the tools she uses to instill a love of learning and to teach Spanish.

"She cares about her kids, she's a relationship person which is so great for our kids and our community so (the Golden Apple Award) is really a point of pride for her and as a school it's great for us as well,” said Victor Junior High Principal Brian Gee.

When told Pero had nominated her, McPartland said, “I think he's great and it makes me want to cry, thank you.”

To McPartland, teaching is so much more than presentation, practice and patience.

It’s also about making connections.

"I just love what I do and I love the kids and it makes it worth it,” McPartland said.
