Judith Shomper receives Golden Apple

To this Brighton teacher all the world is a stage.

BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Name a musical and chances are Judith Shomper has directed it at Brighton High School.

The English teacher recently wrapped up Legally Blonde having put into the production the same amount of time and energy she puts into everything else involving students.

“She’s here from early in the morning from 7 to 3 when the day ends to when practice for rehearsals can go from after school to anywhere from 9 to 9:30 at night and most of the days preparing for the show and the week of the show they’re constantly on the move,” said Brighton High Principal Tom Hall.

Senior Chloe Komorowski nominated Shomper for a Golden Apple Award because of what she brings to the stage and the classroom.

“She’s just fun to be around, you always want that teacher who you don’t dread going to their class and it’s always fun,” Komorowski says.

Asked why she pulls such long hours, Shomper said, “It’s just a love of what I do and working with students, I love them.”
