Jaclyn Crane receives Golden Apple

Helendale first grade teacher gives her class her all

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Normal hours don’t apply to Jaclyn Crane.

The first grade teacher at Helendale Primary School in the East Irondequoit Central School District helps run an after-school drama club and after-school math enrichment program.

She also takes part in a summer literacy camp and tutors all over.

“She’s a nice teacher and I love her,” said Delilah Loos, one of Crane’s students. “Whenever we’re done with school she lets me stay after and she comes to my apartment all the time.”

Crane moved up with her current class having taught them last year as kindergartners.

One parent who wrote in to nominate Crane for a Golden Apple Award said Crane developed a reading group with the librarian for the parent’s daughter and her friend.

“She consistently goes above and beyond the call before school, after school, weekends, they get together at the library. She loves her class and she loves her job,” said her principal, Eric Daniels.

To Crane, teaching isn’t a job, it’s a way of life.

“I have so many teachers that I remember from when I was little so I definitely want to be that for all of my kids too, I want to remember them. I’ve had these kids for two years and I love it, I love coming to work every day,” she said after receiving the Golden Apple Award.
