Go Green: Foodlink Partners with Agencies to Deliver Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

- Mary Estey loves to garden, ""I hope it will inspire people to do it themselves."  As a parishioner at St. Mark's and St. John's Episcopal Church, she is volunteering her time to help grow fruits and vegetables for those in need, "We've offered a food shelf in this location for over 30 years and this has given us the impetus to actually get healthier with the choices we are offering folks."  The church is the site of a community garden,started by Foodlink.  Through a grant, they help buy the materials to get the gardens started, then it's up to community groups and volunteers to make the project grow. 

The food that is grown ends up in a variety of different places.  The vegetables rooted on Culver road end up at the Bethany House, the church's food shelf, and some are sold at a vegetable stand.  They grow about 500 pounds of vegetables a year and this is thier third summer in the program.
