Foodlink Opens "Stop One Meat Market" on Jay Street

- Rochester, NY (WROC)-  There's a new type of corner store in the area.   Foodlink opened up "Stop One Meat Market" on Jay Street today.  It's the first community store awarded funding through a competitive grant process.  The store aims at being a healthy eating asset for the Josana neighborhood.

Mitch Gruber, Foodlink Community Food Access Manager, said, "The neighborhood association here, the Charles House Neighbors in Action, has a real foundation and they all know that they want fresh healthier foods in the neighborhod so we had a building ground there. "

The store will offer coupons for fresh produce along with cooking lessons for shoppers.  This project was funded by the New York Healthy food and Healthy Communities Fund as well as the Citizens Bank Foundation.
Foodlink will open a second store on Carter Street in the spring..

“Foodlink is proud to revitalize our first Community Store, the Stop One Meat Market. With the help of many partners we have renovated and refreshed Stop One, creating a healthy space with increased access to fresh foods and nutrition resources,” said Julia Tedesco, Co-Executive Director of Foodlink. “We will continue to work with Stop One ownership to make sure that this store contributes to improved public health in the JOSANA neighborhood, which is a section of the city that has been identified as a high needs neighborhood.”

“As Mayor, my goals are safe neighborhoods, better schools and more jobs,” said Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “Foodlink’s Community Store initiative supports all of those goals because nutrition is a starting point for a successful lifestyle. People who eat fresh, healthy foods tend to perform better at work or school. I want to thank Foodlink for helping us give every Rochester citizen an opportunity to succeed, regardless of where they live.”
