Fairport Community Gathers To Crush Cancer

- Fairport families remembered one of their own Saturday, but it's not a somber event, it's a musical celebration.

Seventeen year-old Hannah Metzler died in March from a brain tumor. Friends from all over Fairport gathered at the high school Saturday to remember her with a "Crush Cancer" concert. It's the second concert, Hannah was at the first one last year. Her father says the idea for the concerts started when her brother asked to bring music into her hospital room.

"She said why just me, why don't we serenade all the kids who are here," Mike Metzler said. "That was Hannah. She was less interested in helping herself and more interested in helping others and we are just thrilled that we can continue to celebrate what she was all about."

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the pediatric brain tumor fund at the Golisano Children's Hospital as well as "Teens Living With Cancer" and a memorial fund in Hannah's name.
