Extraordinary People: Dr. Cristina Cadavieco is dedicated to helping animals

FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Dr. Cristina Cadavieco's job at Lollypop Farm always keeps her busy. Not that it bothers her.

"I love to make a difference for the animals that don't have anybody," she says.

Gillian Hargrave, the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Lollypop Farm says, "I would describe Dr. Cristina as truly one of our most dedicated employees. Not only is she a brilliant vet, and a brilliant surgeon, but she's truly one of the most compassionate people I've ever met."

Dr. Cristina left private veterinary practice and was looking for something different. That's when she heard about the opening at Lollypop.

"I heard at Cornell about Lollypop because some of the students in my class used to come here to practice their surgery so I decided to give it a try and that was almost 13 years ago," she laughs.

"For her it's not about prestige, it's not about money. it's really about what's best for the animals and doing everything we can to make them healthy, happy," Hargrave adds.

Her coworkers say Dr. Cristina comes in early mornings, late nights, on weekends and even holidays, anything for the animals.

"Occasionally I slept here, but if i know that I'm going to worry a lot I take them home and keep them with me during the night," Cadavieco adds.

And with all the time she spends there, Hargrave jokes, "I don't think there's enough money in the world to pay her what she's worth."

No matter the time or the money, there's nothing Dr. Cristina wouldn't do to give every animal a fighting chance.

"I want every animal that comes to Lollypop to have a chance to make it out of here healthy and happy."

In 2015, Dr. Cristina and the rest of the medical staff performed more than 7500 surgeries. Lollypop operates completely on private donations and they need everyone's help to make sure they're able to continue their work. Click here to learn how you can help.
