Community Bikes

- As the warmer weather breaks, more people will be out and about riding their bikes.  Now, a local organization is helping people who otherwise may not be able to ride...get in on the fun.

Volunteers from "R Community Bikes" will modify bicycles for adults, children, and veterans with physical and developmental disabilities.  It's all thanks to a $5,000 community health award from Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Volunteers say it's a great way to help others in need.

"It's a very exciting place to come and work.  I think the growth shows how important the job is, and how well received it's been in the community," said R Community Bikes volunteer Carl Christensen.

Last year alone, R Community Bikes fixed enough broken bicycles to help thousands of needy children and adults.  The bike shop was one of seven programs to be awarded money through Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.
