Coast Guard Sends Flares For Boater In Distress

Many people saw lights in the sky around Lake Ontario Saturday night.  The United States Coast Guard says they were flares sent up to help search for a boat in distress.

A mayday came over the radio around 7:00p.m. Saturday.  A boat called in distress and there was no reply back when Coast Guard tried contacting them.  The Coast Guard then sent crews out.  They also had boats from Canada helping them, as well as a C130 Helicopter.  Many people saw the big yellow flares or possibly C130 Helicopter spot lights assisting in the search for the boat.

The search was called off around 11:00p.m.
