Spotting Speech Disorders in Children

The American Speech Language Hearing Association wants to raise awareness about childhood speech disorders. The group estimates 5 percent of children have a noticeable problem by the time they're in the first grade - and some children haven't been diagnosed.

Speech pathologist Tami Treutlein of SLC Therapy of WNY said speech disorders can be detected when a child is only a year old. Some children develop issues in their second, third or fourth years. She said it's important to know the signs and then seek treatment.
